Mom's Jan Hagel

I think my Mom got this from the old Betty Crocker Cookie Cookbook. We made it SO often and I love the cinnamon and walnut flavors. These are thin, very much like a cookie type bar.

1 cup margarine

1 cup sugar

1 egg, separated

2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon water

1/2 cup walnuts, very finely chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Lightly grease a jellyroll pan.  Mix margarine, sugar and egg yolk.  Blend flour and cinnamon.  Stir into margarine mixture.  Pat into pan.  Beat water and egg white until frothy; brush over dough.  Sprinkle with nuts.  Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until very lightly browned.  Cut immediately into about 1x3 inch bars.
