Nanny's Supper Gingerbread

Nanny's family dates back to colonial times and I can just see this yummy cake on the table many generations ago.

3/4 cup shortening, melted

3/4 cup molasses

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

2 1/2 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

2 teaspoons ginger

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup boiling water

Whipped cream or Cool Whip

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix melted shortening, molasses, brown sugar and eggs. Mix well. Add flour, baking soda, spices and baking powder. Beat vigorously, adding water last. Turn into greased 9 X 13 inch pan and bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with or without whipped cream.
