Sweet and Sour Meatballs

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/2 cup milk

1 pound ground beef

1/4 cup onion, chopped

1 1/2 teaspoons salt


1/3 cup green and/or red bell peppers

1/4 cup sugar

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 1/4 cups water

1/4 cup vinegar

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

Soak top and bottom of a medium clay cooker in water for at least 15 minutes.  In a bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk and allow to stand for 5 minutes.  Mix in ground beef, onion, 1 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste.  From into 1-inch balls and place in cooker.  Sprinkle sliced peppers around meatballs.  In a separate bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch, water, vinegar, soy sauce and 1/2 teaspoon salt and pour over meatballs.  Cover, place in a cold oven and set temperature to 450 degrees.  Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes.  Taste and adjust seasoning.  Can be served as a main dish with rice, or as an appetizer.
