Mom's Almond Cookies

This is a festive butter type holiday cookie topped with a while almond.

2 cups butter or margarine

1 1/2 cups sugar

2 teaspoons almond extract

4 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup ground almonds

Sugar for rolling

1 package whole almonds (about 50-60 almonds)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream butter and sugar in mixer. Add almond extract. Mix in flour and baking powder. Stir in ground almonds. Form into ball using rounded teaspoon. Roll in sugar, place on cookie sheet and press flat with the bottom of a glass. Top each cookie with a whole almond. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
