Cherry Oatmeal Cookies

I usually use the dried cranberry/ cherry mix for these. It adds just that little bit of tartness to make the cookie different.

1 cup butter or margarine

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon cinnamon

3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

1 cup dried tart cherries or dried "cherries and goldens"

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cream butter and sugars until well blended.  Add egg and vanilla.  Beat until light and fluffy.  Carefully mix in, flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and cinnamon.  Mix well.  Stir in oats and fruit.  Drop by heaping teaspoons onto lightly greased cookie sheet and bake until lightly browned about 10 to 12 minutes.  Makes about 4 dozen.
