Mom's Melt Aways

This is a really light butter cookie. Really good with the walnuts added.

1 cup butter or margarine

1 cup powdered sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cream butter or margarine and powdered sugar.  Add egg and vanilla.  Mix in flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt.  Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet.  Flatten a little and add a little bunch of chopped nuts on the top of each cookie.  Bake for 8 minutes.  The cookie dough is very soft and will spread during baking.
