Family Stories:

Herman Zastrow was born in Trutzlatz, Pommerania, Germany and immigrated to the United States when he was 12. His family settled in the Wayside/Morrison area of Wisconsin where they joined his grandmother who had been in the United States since 1865. He was confirmed in 1883 at Zion Lutheran Church, Wayside, Wisconsin. In 1886 he married Amanda Krueger at Zion Lutheran Church, Morrison, Wisconsin. They moved to Antigo, Wisconsin sometime the same year, and their first child, Mabel was born February 2, 1897. By 1900 they had 3 children, Mabel, Herman Alfred (Shorty) and Otto. Sometime between 1900 and 1905 Herman and Amanda divorced. Herman moved to a farm outside of Antigo in the Evergreen/Elton area of Langlade County and in 1905 Amanda had the children.

Amanda remarried and moved to Minnesota with Mabel. There is no more mention of Otto. Perhaps he died as a young child.

In 1906, Herman literally married "the girl next door", Barbra Servi, who's farm was next to his. They had 7 children in their 23 years of marriage and also raised Herman's oldest son Alfred. Between 1910 and 1914 the family moved back to the Wayside/Morisson area of Wisconsin near Herman's family. They moved to Chilton, Wisconsin sometime before his death in 1929.

After Herman passed away, Barbra lived in Chilton, Wisconsin and never remarried, raising her children alone. Whether from birth, or some illness, Barbra was deaf. She is remembered by grandchildren and great-grandchildren as always giving big hugs.

Barbra Servi was born in Unterhutte, Austria (Bohemia), now an abandoned village, in Horsovskey Tyn, in the Czech Republic. She arrived in New York on the ship Bolivia, 1886 at the age of 2 months old with her mother Theresa and another child, Theresa age 4.

There is one mystery about Barbara. On their wedding certificate she lists Andrew Servi and Catherine Lang as her parents and Michael is a witness. What has shown up later is her birth documentation from Unterhutte which lists Michael Servi as her father. Why her grandparents are listed as her parents on her wedding certificate is a mystery, but the birth documentation does show that Michael and Theresa are her parents. Also, after finding the city records from Unterhutte, we know that Andrew and Catherine or Andreas and Katherina were born in 1822 making it highly unlikely that they could be her parents.
