Grandma M's Cherry Dills

This was written on one of my mom's recipe cards with a note in the corner that it was from her mom.

Put cucumbers in a big jar with dill and cherry leaves. Take 5 qt. of water and 1 cup salt, keep it up until jar is full. Put weight on and let stand for a week or more. Then take pickles out and wash them and cut them in 1 in. and put in jars. Boil juice; take 2 cups sugar, 1 cup vinegar, little mixed spices. Boil at least 15 min. and pour over pickles. Seal tight.
