Tillie's Orange Cake

This recipe was one of the first recipes submitted to our family cookbook by my Aunt Irene.


1 c. sugar

2 eggs

1/2 c. shortening (solid)

Take 1 large orange (seedless), squeeze out juice, grind up 1 cup raisins with orange rind, pulp and all. Mix with 1 cup sour or buttermilk, 2 cups flour and 1 teaspoon baking soda. Mix all together. Bake about 350° for 35 minutes or until done. Use bundt or 9X13 inch pan. Take juice from orange juice and mix with 3/4 cup sugar. Put on hot cake and put under broiler until bubbly.
