This has to be my favorite recipe growing up. It's written on an index card and not in my Mother's handwriting. I believe it's her friend Marj who wrote it, a Pastor's wife and dear friend. Mom and I made these ALLOT!!! Lucky me!!!
Mix together:
2 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
In separate bowl cream thoroughly:
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
Blend in:
2 unbeaten eggs-beating well after each and 1 tsp. vanilla
Add dry ingred. alternately w/3/4 c. milk. Begin and end w/dry ingredients.
Stir in:
1 cup salted mix nuts, chopped
1 cup choc. chips
1 cup, well drained marachino cherry halves
Bake in 9X13 pan, greased and floured at 375° for 25-30 min. until center is lightly browned. Frost w/Brown Butter Frosting.
