Mom's Poppyseed Torte

This was one of the most popular desserts my mother made for company or family gatherings.

8 egg yolks

2 cups milk

3 T. cornstarch

1 cup sugar

1/2 t. salt

1/2 cup poppyseed

Beat ingredients together and cook until thick. Then add 2 T. gelatin dissolved in 8 T. cold water. Mix well and cool. Add 1 t. vanilla. When cool beat 8 egg whites and 1/2 t. cream of tartar. Fold in 1/2 cup of sugar. Fold whites mixture into egg yolk mixture. Pour into graham cracker crust in a 9X13 pan. Serve with whipped cream.
