Mom's Schaum Torte

This was one of my Mom's favorite recipes. Being German, there are many, many Tortes and Kuchens from my side of the family.

Heat oven to 450

Roll 1/4 lb. graham crackers fine. Mix with 1/4 lb. butter or oleo melted. Pat in bottom of pan.

Beat 6 egg whites with;

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/8 t. cream of tartar

Beat egg whites very stiff with cream of tartar and sugar gradually by Tablespoon. Beat very stiff. Spoon mixture over crumbs. Put in oven and turn off gas. Let stand over night or until cool about 6 hr.

Whip 1 bottle of cream, add 1 can grated coconut or fresh coconut. Spread over egg whites. Cut salted pecans over cream.
