Grandma Z's Wilted Lettuce Salad

It was one of my Grandmother's signature recipes. When we started our family cookbook in 1980, it was one of the first we mader her sit down and write out for us. We're SO glad we did!!!

Cup up 1 head of lettuce. Cut up 5 or 6 slices bacon. Fry brown. Put bacon chips on lettuce. To bacon grease, add 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water. Bring to boil. Pour over lettuce. Salt and pepper.
