Nana's Baked Sauerkraut

This recipe I found in my mother-in-laws recipe box, written on an index card.

2 lbs. sauerkraut, washed & drained

1 lb. can tomatoes

1 1/4 c. brown sugar

4 slices bacon, lean, halved crosswise

Spread sauerkraut in buttered oven proof dish 12X9. Cover with tomatoes including juice & sprinkle with brown sugar. Arrange bacon on top & bake 300-2hr. Remove, cut bacon in pieces & stir it gently in sauerkraut. Bake, adding water as necessary to prevent from drying out for 1 hour. Serves 8
