Honey Glazed Ham

This is just delicious on a cooked country ham, large bone and/or skin on smoked ham. It makes a candy like topping....soooo yummy.

1 cup water, more as needed

2 whole star anise

12 whole cloves

1 (7#) large smoked ham or cooked country ham (directions and times are not for an uncooked or unsmoked ham)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup honey

2 tablespoons dijon mustard

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

1 1/2 teaspoons pepper

1/2 teaspoon Worceestershire sauce

1 pinch cayenne pepper

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Pour water, star anise and cloves in roasting pan. Put roasting rack in pan. Cut 1/4 inch deep slashes 1/2 inch apart lengthwise and crosswise across entire ham top.

Bake 20 minutes. Mix rest of ingredients in small bowl. Brush glaze over ham. Continue baking, brushing on glaze every 20 minutes until thermometer reads 140 degrees, about 2-2 1/2 hours.
