My own recipe for holiday stuffing. This is a combination of my Mother's recipe and my Grandmothers old 1912 Westbend Cookbook where I found a stuffing recipe similar to my Mom's, on a page that had lots of spots on it, so I put the two together and came up with this family favorite.
12 slices bread
Milk to cover bread
2 pounds ground beef
1 medium onion chopped
4 eggs
2 to 3 apples
2 to 3 handfuls raisins
Add these to taste, this is about what I use:
1 to 2 teaspoons nutmeg
2 to 4 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon sage
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
Salt and pepper
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, soak bread in milk to cover. Brown the ground beef, add the onion and cook until softened. Remove from heat and add to bread and milk and mix. Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Cover and bake for 1 hour.
