Mom's Vegetable Beef Soup

I'm not a big fan of Vegetable soup, but my family likes this one and I don't think it's too bad either.......for a vegetable soup ;~)

3 pounds stew meat (I like using the beef for stir fry, seems more tender)

1 or 2 beef soup bones (optional)

1 large can tomato juice

6 cups water

1/3 cup onion, coarsely chopped

1 tablespoon salt

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

2 bay leaves

1 cup celery, chopped

1 cup carrots, chopped

1 cup potatoes, diced

1 cup cabbage, chopped

Brown stew meat and any meat on the bone (if used).  Place in soup pot and add water, tomato juice, onion, salt, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder and bay leaves.  Bring to boil, cover and then simmer for 1 1/2 hours.  Add vegetables and simmer for another 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
